While the pandemic put a pause on in-person events for a long time, they’re quickly ramping back up with many events planned for the following year.

However, a large concern of people attending these events is still safety. And while there are many factors that go into creating a safe event environment, event security fencing is one of them.

If you’re planning an event and are unsure how to choose the right event fence for your area, we’ve got you covered. Keep reading to find out what factors you should consider when choosing fence rentals.

What Is Event Fencing Used For?

If you’re in the midst of putting together an event and have seen calls for event fencing, you may be wondering why it’s necessary.

Whether you’re planning an arts or food festival, concert, parade, race, fair, school function, or another type of large event, an event fence can help keep people in line or create safe perimeters for crowds. It can also be used to section off smaller spaces, such as VIP areas.

Fencing comes in many different sizes so you’re sure to get the kind that’s just right for your event. Plus, event fencing is temporary, so once the event is finished (whether that’s a couple of days later or a couple of months later), they come right down without a hassle.

1. Choose the Right Fence for the Type of Event

This is the main question that will need to be addressed: What kind of fencing will work best with my event?

There are several different fencing options to choose from depending on the space and what will be happening at your event.

Fencing Panels

Fencing panels are great if your event requires lots of different fenced-off areas of differing sizes. These panels are easy to move around and don’t require any drilling.

In-Ground Fencing

If your event will take place for a longer period of time and you’re looking for sturdier fencing, in-ground fencing might be best. However, this type of fencing does require drilling.

Barricades

Most common at concerts, barricades are both sturdy and easy to arrange to accommodate different areas. Plus, they’re simple to move as well.

2. Measure the Fencing Area

This may seem like a no-brainer, but to ensure your fencing needs are met, you’ll need to know exactly how much event fencing you need.

Take the time to measure the area you’ll be fencing, or find an estimate of how large the space is. If you’ll be putting the fencing around any obstacles or odd-shaped areas, it’s a good idea to rent more fencing than might be necessary, just in case.

If you’re not sure how much fencing your event area will require, there are fencing calculators online that can help you come up with a reasonable estimate.

3. Find Out About Permits and Regulations

If you’re throwing an event, you have likely researched to find out which permits are required and what rules you need to follow to ensure the event is safe and successful. But rules and regulations will apply to the rental fencing as well.

Check your local and/or state regulations in regard to fencing for events to find out what the guidelines are. What are the rules for creating exits or lines? What about windscreens on fences or a fence’s height?

These are all questions that should be answered after researching your local event fencing rules.

4. Research the Company You Intend to Use First

You want your event to be a smashing success, and all of the details that go into it (including the fencing!) will affect this. Not only to ensure the event’s success but also to ensure people’s safety, it’s important to choose a company that offers reliable and sturdy fencing options.

Before committing to a company, do a little research on them first. Check out their website and see which fencing options they offer, as well as their other services.

Do they offer installation of the fences so you can be sure they’re set up correctly? Do they have a helpline in case you need assistance? Are their reviews from previous customers positive?

These are all things to consider before deciding to order fencing through a business.

5. Consider How the Fence Will Be Installed

Does the fence require drilling or concrete bases? Or is it held up with metal or sandbags? Is it easy to transport or move?

These are all questions to consider when choosing a type of fence as well. While you should choose a fence that’s right for your event, take into account the setup and removal of it too, and whether it will be convenient or not.

For example, if you need to be able to move the fencing around, opting for in-ground fencing isn’t a great choice.

Make sure you’re comfortable with the entire process before deciding.

6. Ask Questions

Planning an event can be a stressful undertaking. If you’re looking into fence rentals and thinking, “I have no idea what I’m doing!” that’s okay. Reaching out to an event fencing professional is a good way to get the information you need to make the right decision.

A professional company will be able to answer all of your questions and explain your options. They might also offer advice on which type of fence they would recommend for your specific event and then go into the details of how the process would work.

Before you have a conversation with them (whether in person, by phone, or by email), make a list of all of your fencing questions to be sure you don’t forget anything.
